Is Vanilla Extract Halal?

Quick answer Scholars differ

Vanilla extract is made by soaking vanilla in alcohol. Many scholars permit it in food because the amount is tiny and non-intoxicating, and the alcohol is usually not from wine. Others avoid it. Vanilla flavouring, vanillin, vanilla pods and alcohol-free extract are halal by all views.
