Is Kosher Meat Halal?

Quick answer Scholars differ

Scholars differ. Some permit kosher meat because the Qur'an allows the food of Jews and Christians and kosher slaughter is done by hand without stunning. Many others, especially Hanafi scholars, say it is not halal because God's name is not said over each animal. Kosher-certified foods can also contain wine or non-halal gelatine, so kosher is not the same as halal.

Similarities

Kosher slaughter (shechita) cuts the throat by hand with a sharp knife, without stunning, and drains the blood. Pork is forbidden in both.

Why some permit it

The Qur'an says "the food of those given the Scripture is lawful for you" (5:5). Scholars who apply this to kosher slaughter permit the meat.

Why many do not

Many scholars require God's name to be said over each animal specifically, which is not part of shechita in the same way.

Kosher foods are not automatically halal

Kosher rules allow alcohol, including wine, and some kosher gelatine comes from non-halal sources. Always check the ingredients.
