About JAKIM

JAKIM is Malaysia's government halal authority and one of the most widely recognised halal certifiers in the world. Its logo appears on many products exported from Malaysia, and it recognises a list of foreign certification bodies. Products for the Malaysian market must meet its standards.

How to check a certificate

  • Look for the logo on the pack or a certificate displayed in the restaurant, with an expiry date.
  • Search the business or product on JAKIM's official website.
  • Be wary of logos that look similar but are not the official mark.

Scholars differ on stunning and machine slaughter — see Is stunned meat halal? and machine-slaughtered chicken.
